In my studio engaged in preparatory work
Although trained in stained glass I now paint mainly with oil, acrylic, pastel and graphite.
My paintings and drawings reflect my response to internal and external landscapes.
My method is to draw a landscape from life, concentrating on the unseen elements and bringing the underlying structure to the surface through line, colour, light and texture.
I use various media; acrylic, oil paint, pastel, charcoal, and pencil on canvas or board. Occasionally I incise lines on some works produced on board to emphasise them and allow the paint to react organically to the surface, imitating the uncontrollable elements in life.
Because I choose what to leave out of my work, an abstract or semi-abstract image evolves. This represents a fusion of emotions, mental images and memories which capture the essence of the subject rather than a literal or figurative interpretation. The choice of media also exerts its influence on the image.
